"SOLITARIO" a Ya Guey story

"SOLITARIO" a Ya Guey Story - Costa Rica Surf Adventure

“Solitario” is a Ya Guey story that follows a one - man strike mission in search of what he found last time he touched down in Costa Rica. This can be considered a spin off of “YA GUEY” because it picks up right where it left off. A rogue surfer with the thrill of riding waves by himself or “solitario” meaning “alone” or “in solitude” in Costa Rica’s native language of Spanish.

This short film kickstarts the wild lifestyle that we live. A last second strike mission to test oneself and discover who he really is and what is important to him. The theme and editing style was inspired by the film “Nacho Libre” so while editing I thought it best to lead off with the famous track “Religious Man” by Mister Loco, which is the theme song to the well - known Jack Black film’s pivotal scene where he wanders into the desert alone to learn more about himself. In this moment, he tells the school children a quote that is silly but always stuck with me; “I am the gatekeeper of my own destiny, and I will have my glory day in the hot sun.”

Similar to Nacho, there are doubts about the world I was growing up into, I returned to my roots of what makes me happy to force a coming of age moment. I scored all alone once again. I was hooked on living wild, and this was the path I would choose for the rest of my life.

Filmed by Daphne on Sony A7 series, edited and produced by Beau.
