"EL MATADERO" a Ya Guey story

"EL MATADERO" a Ya Guey Story - El Salvador Surf Trip Film

The famous right - hand point breaks of El Salvador turned up a notch by a winter code red swell battering the breaks and thinning out the crowd. Picking up where we left off in “LOTE44” and back in the same confidential location, this time armed with a bigger crew and better waves on the horizon. During this swell many didn’t go, for the fear of washing up on the cliffs and rocks of “El Matadero” (which translates to “Slaughterhouse”) was too daunting. You can see the ocean smashing the cliffs where many brave ones have breathed their last breath. But this is part of our design, why we choose to live wild and chase uncertainty, especially in the ocean.

The theme of misunderstood compulsion to chase this adrenaline can be depicted in the lyrics from the Red Hot Chili Peppers hit track “Dark Necessities” - “You don’t know my mind, you don’t know my kind, dark necessities are out of my design.” As the overhead waves smash the nearby cliffs we are forced to take some time to regroup and check out the local scenery the beautiful country of El Salvador has to offer. However, in the end we are drawn back to the ocean to get near perfect conditions with mild resistance from the local crowd.
